The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is the world's largest general scientific society and publisher of the journal, Science. AAAS was founded in 1848 and serves some 265 affiliated societies and academies of science, serving 10 million individuals. Science has the largest paid circulation of any peer-reviewed general science journal in the world, with an estimated total readership of one million. Gateway to Educational Materials (GEM) The Gateway to Educational Materials is a consortium effort to provide educators with quick and easy access to thousands of educational resources found on various federal, state, university, nonprofit, and commercial Internet sites. GEM is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. George Lucas Foundation The George Lucas Educational Foundation (GLEF) is a nonprofit operating foundation that documents and disseminates models of the most innovative practices in our nation's K-12 schools. International Reading Association

The International Reading Association is a professional membership organization dedicated to promoting high levels of literacy for all by improving the quality of reading instruction, disseminating research and information about reading, and encouraging the lifetime reading habit. Members include classroom teachers, reading specialists, consultants, administrators, supervisors, university faculty, researchers, psychologists, librarians, media specialists and parents. The Knowledge Loom In October 1998, the United States Department of Education assigned resources to the Northeast and Islands Regional Educational Laboratory at Brown University to develop a "...sustainable, customer-driven, distributed repository/database of information on best practices in teaching and learning." Realizing that a "repository" was not enough, Knowledge Loom — a comprehensive electronic environment that moves from information delivery to information creation, from data to people, from a learning library to a learning community -- was created. MarcoPolo; Internet Content for the Classroom

MarcoPolo: Internet Content for the Classroom is a nonprofit consortium of premier national and international education organizations and the MCI Foundation dedicated to providing the highest quality Internet content and professional development to teachers and students throughout the United States. It was first launched in 1997 as a collection of standards-based, discipline-specific educational Web sites for K-12 teachers. http://www.marcopolo-education.org/

 

NASA Quest Whether in the area of aerospace design or training for space walks, NASA Quest is a rich resource for educators, kids and space enthusiasts who are interested in meeting and learning about NASA people and the national space program. (NCTE) ReadWriteThink, established in April 2002, is a partnership between the International Reading Association (IRA), the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and the MarcoPolo Education Foundation.  Science NetLinks Science NetLinks is part of the MarcoPolo Education Foundation. MarcoPolo partners the AAAS, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Council of the Great City Schools, the National Council on Economic Education, the National Geographic Society, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The MarcoPolo partnership provides free, Internet-based content across academic disciplines. Science NetLinks' role is to provide a wealth of resources for K-12 science educators, including lesson plans and reviewed Internet resources. ThinkQuest ThinkQuest is an international competition where student teams engage in collaborative, project-based learning to create educational Websites. The winning entries form the ThinkQuest online library. http://www.thinkquest.org/
The Web Quest Page This site is designed to serve as a resource to those who are using the WebQuest model to teach with the Web. By pointing to excellent examples and collecting materials developed to communicate the idea, teachers experimenting with WebQuests will be able to learn from each other.

A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented activity in which most or all of the information used by learners is drawn from the Web. WebQuests are designed to use learners' time well, to focus on using information rather than looking for it, and to support learners' thinking at the levels of analysis, synthesis and evaluation. web Teacher webTeacher was created in 1997 by two teachers from Tennessee, Mike and Jo Ann Guidry, and by TECH CORPS WebMaster Wayne Kincaid, who brought together their Internet knowledge and classroom experiences to develop a training tool useful for anyone, but designed specifically for teachers.
